Creative Looping: Using Bass Solo Mode for Melodies and RhythmsUpdated 9 hours ago
While Orchid's looper currently records all sounds to a single audio track, you can use a clever workaround with the dedicated bass engine to create multi-layered loops with distinct melodic or rhythmic parts.
The Technique:
First, record your main chord progression in Loop Mode as you normally would, but with the Bass Mode turned OFF.
Once your chord loop is playing back, go to the Bass Menu by long-pressing the Bass Dial.
Select Solo mode. This mutes the main synth engine, allowing you to hear and record only the bass sound.
Enter Overdub in the Loop Menu.
You can now play and record a separate bassline, melody, or even a percussive pattern over your chord loop.
Creative Tips from the Community:
Create a Second Melody: Turn the Bass Voicing Dial up to its higher ranges. Many of the bass presets become melodic and pluck-like in these upper octaves, effectively giving you a second synth to layer with. Users have noted that Bass Sound #9 sounds like a classic house music pluck in its higher voicings.
Add Percussion: Some bass sounds are very punchy and percussive. Experiment with different bass presets to find one that can act as a kick drum or other rhythmic element to build a beat.
