How to Record MIDI from All Three Channels (Performance, Bass, Chord)Updated 8 hours ago

Orchid is a powerful MIDI controller because it outputs its performance, bass, and chord data on three separate, simultaneous MIDI channels. This allows for incredible flexibility in your DAW.

  • Default MIDI Channels:

    • Channel 1: Performance (The final notes you hear, including arps and strums)

    • Channel 2: Bass (The dedicated bass synth notes)

    • Channel 3: Chord (The underlying block chord, regardless of performance mode)

  • DAW Setup:

    1. Create three separate MIDI tracks in your DAW.

    2. Set the MIDI input of the first track to receive from Orchid, Channel 1.

    3. Set the MIDI input of the second track to Orchid, Channel 2.

    4. Set the MIDI input of the third track to Orchid, Channel 3.

    5. Arm all three tracks to record.

  • Result: When you play and record, you will capture the arpeggiated melody, the bassline, and the core chords on separate tracks, allowing you to edit them independently or assign them to different virtual instruments.
